One of my pet peeves is when people shift their goal posts upon being confronted with facts that go against their narrative. I understand why people do it, and at least when it happens in casual discourse, I think it's generally not something done with malice or intention; humans have a natural aversion to being wrong. I'm sure that I've done it unconsciously from time to time, too, but when I have it pointed out to me, I can own up to it. Problematic people double down on

The Complete Chronicles of Conan
Rating: A+
Length: 892 pages, standard hardcover page size Despite being a fan of multiple early-1900s writers (like Edgar Allen Poe and Howard Phillips Lovecraft) and having a fondness for the low fantasy swords-and-sorcery subgenre, I'd never read any of Robert E. Howard's writing before picking up this collection. It turns out I was long overdue to check out his work, because he belongs up there with the other modern classic masters. As the page count implies, there were

I've said already that I think Monster Hunter World was a fantastic game (and that was before I spent about another 120 hours playing it). Well, the Iceborne expansion game came out recently, and rather than jumping straight into the master rank content after a long break from that game, I decided to play it with a new character file. I figured that would also be a good opportunity to give the ranged weapons more of a real try. Unsurprisingly, it's still a fantastic game (

Sundered: Eldritch Edition
Rating: B- Playing Time: 23 hours I like Metroid-style games. I likes roguelike games, too, as evidenced by my first game review. Despite both of those facts, though, I was skeptical about a game claiming to combine those genres. A large chunk of the fun of Metroid games is finding hidden secrets and cool shortcuts as you get better, both by getting new mobility options as a character and by learning to spot hints of secrets as a player. Procedural map generation can lead

A little change-up was due for me. Instead of doing two pass/fail workouts of three movements each, I did three pass/fail workouts of two movements each. Then, instead of my usual six-set weekend challenge that follows on the heels of doing 100 burpees, I did 50 burpees. After all, if I want to have better results when doing high volumes of those, it makes sense to have more practice with doing high volumes of them. Sunday Type: Pass/Fail Fingertip Push Ups - 3 sets of 9 (

I'm at a loss for what to talk about today. I suppose I can mention that there's another author out there who also uses the name Ash Adler. Any future releases by my hand will be mentioned here, so if you have some doubt about which Ash Adler is responsible for a certain work, you can check about it here. Not that I hold anything against this person, but you should have a means of telling us apart. Sunday Type: Pass/Fail Fingertip Push Ups - 2 sets of 8 (pass) Skin-the-Cat
Workout Recap - Week of August 25, 2019
Only four workouts this week, because my hamstrings got overloaded somewhere along the way and needed a little more time to recover. Looking over my logs, it's been a trend since mid-June for every third week to have only four workouts. That's marginally higher than my general target of one lighter week per month, but that target is meant as a rough measure of how well I'm recovering rather than something where there is merit in adhering to it. As it stands, I think all th
