Workout Recap - Week of February 11, 2018
I said last week that I'd start ramping things up again soon, but apparently, this week was too soon for that. Continuing to travel and getting settled into new places is time-consuming, particularly when there's also a language barrier to deal with, and that's also not even considering that I've been putting in a lot of work for my job along the way. Now, could I have done more? Yeah, certainly, and I think it's important to be aware that I made the choice to prioritize other things in the spare time that I had.
Speaking of which, one of those things was to do an absurd amount of trekking around the small town that I found myself in. It wasn't quite as much as last week, but walking about 20 km in a single day is still nothing to scoff at.
Monday
Type: Pass/Fail
One-Armed Push Ups, Feet Together – 2 sets of 5, each side (pass) Pistol Squats – 2 sets of 5, each side (pass) Stand-to-Stand Bridges, one wall touch on the way up – 2 sets of 6 (pass)
Bonus: none
Similar to how I'd had an easy workout near the start of last week just to get my body moving again after riding an airplane, I did the same again this week.
Wednesday
Type: As Fast As Possible
21 reps/15 reps/9 reps of plyometric lunges
21 reps/15 reps/9 reps of diamond push ups
21 reps/15 reps/9 reps of straight leg raises
Time = 4:15
Bonus: 3 pistol squats (each side), 5 bridges
I'd been focusing on pass/fail-type workouts since last week to give myself a chance to get acclimatized to the local conditions, since I'm in a very different environment from where I live. As I've become pretty comfortable, though, it's time to start incentivizing pushing the pace.
Thursday
Type: As Fast As Possible
3 sets of:
10 Burpees 15 Push Ups 20 Tuck Jumps
Time = 6:15
Bonus: 5 handstand push ups
Nothing too insightful to say about this one. It's really just a slightly easier version of a routine that I've done plenty of times before. I'd wanted to use it as a gauge of how well I was adjusting to my current location and still maintaining my performance, and I think it gave a solid result on both accounts. That having been said, I still skipped exercising for the rest of the week (Friday was just a bad day for me and an even worse day for a close friend, and Saturday featured the aforementioned 20 km of walking), so I should aimto continue proving myself to myself
