Has it been a month already?

Monday

Muay Thai class + Boxing class

This was a fundamentals review class. It was a basic but good grind, with some extra calisthenics added on compared to usual. This was my first real class with the new boxing coach, and I liked how it went. We worked on movement and managing space with jabs. It was definitely a different approach compared to the main kru, but it was sensible enough that I'm looking forward to doing more.

Tuesday

Muay Thai class + Boxing class

This was a head-to-head back-and-forth defense class. We worked on various kick defenses, with some reflex training mixed in, so a good time, all in all. The boxing class continued with the foundations from the previous one, while adding in some use of feints to set up further attacks. Fun stuff.

Wednesday

Muay Thai class + Boxing class

The guest kru was running this class, and it reminded me of why I seem to clash with his approach. It wasn't bad, exactly, but it went down a rabbit hole and features some of his typical "one true way"-style statements, both of which don't mesh well with me. On the plus side, the boxing class was cool, working on managing engagement with footwork while staying busy with jabs. It was a tough class for me since that's not in my comfort zone, but that made it a good opportunity to work on adding some stuff to me repertoire.

Thursday

Muay Thai class + Boxing class

The first class worked on combining punches and knee strikes. That's always fun stuff for me, especially when we also mixed in some clinched knees, so that I could enjoy ragdolling a larger partner. The boxing class was more focus on footwork, which is certainly still a weakness for me, but I do feel like I'm doing a little better with it than I was to start the week, which is encouraging to notice. The coach also gave me a shout-out at the end for being consistent in showing up and following instructions. Neither of those are actually remarkable things from my perspective, and I don't have enough of a read on him to judge how honest it was, but if I push those thoughts aside, I suppose to was nice to be complimented.
