Catching up, part three.
Monday
Muay Thai class + Boxing class
The guest kru made this whole class about building up a big progressive drill. I don't mean to be negative about it, but despite including elbow and knee strikes, I just felt like it got bloated after the first few steps to a point that felt unnecessary. The boxing class, on the other hand, worked on defensive reactions and countering, which is always a worthwhile topic, especially when handled well.
Tuesday
Muay Thai class + Boxing class
This was a high-volume kick day. I feel like I held up noticeably better than usual for it, which might be a sign that the boxing classes are helping improve my leg stamina (or maybe it was just a consequence of working with a partner who was actually close to my size for a change). The boxing class worked on training sensible defensive reactions to various incoming punches. We kept it limited to blocks and rolls for simplicity, but even that much was cool because I've had it as a long-running item in my mind to work on selectively evading certain strikes.
Wednesday
Muay Thai class + Boxing class
The guest kru ran a class that meshed well with me this day, working on various extension options off of one or two initiating strikes. I had a decent time with it. The boxing class worked on preemptive defensive exits after attacking, while also adding in some reaction training. Good times all around.
Thursday
Muay Thai class + Boxing class
This class was a ten-spot drill station gauntlet rotation, making it a good stamina test. I was impressed at how well my body handled it, even with wearing out doing high-volume kicks afterwards to finish up. The boxing class worked on putting together footwork and head movement in back-and-forth drills, which was a nice capstone for the recent emphasis on that body of skills.
