It was a big competitive event last weekend. I didn't compete, of course, since I have no real interest in that, but I felt like mentioning it would be good filler for this intro part.
Monday
Muay Thai class
This was a statutory holiday in Ontario, so we celebrated with some stamina-grinding. Since the holiday threw off typical attendance, I got to part with one of the competitive fighters who I don't work with much anymore. We had a good time mixing in a little freestyle improvisation with the drills.
Tuesday
Muay Thai class
The guest kru used this class to work on mixing up attack levels and timing. It was honestly pretty good and mostly practical stuff, so I have no real complaints.
Wednesday
Muay Thai class
This class was a mix of head-to-head back-and-forth defense work, padwork drills, and light sparring. It mostly focused on boxing stuff due to compressing everyone into a single class because of bad weather, aside from that last category. I got to finish up with a round each against two fighters planning to compete in the MMA category at our upcoming event, which was a nice bit of spice to get to work on defending punches from someone not wearing big boxing gloves and getting to put a little more attention on grappling. Overall, it was a nice self-confidence booster that I seemed to hold my own well against them, even while focusing on things that are supposed to be weaknesses of Muay Thai as a style when used outside of its native rules.
Thursday
Muay Thai class
This was an offense>defense>counter-focused class, with that work sandwiched inside of some high volume round kicks, because building stamina and focusing on maintaining form through fatigue are always useful things. It was a fun way to close out the week.
