The snow persists, and so do I.
Monday
Muay Thai class
This was a boxing day, with some knee strikes mixed in towards the end. Since there has been a little surge of beginners lately, we kept things simple, working mostly on straight punches as an opportunity to really dial in on form and spacing. It was a good fundamental review.
Tuesday
Muay Thai class
This class continued with the theme of reviewing basics, though leaning more on weaving together offense and defense this time. It felt like I was in my element with these, which was an interesting mental reaction. We finished up with some high-volume round kicks, which I was able to crank out nicely. Granted, it did help stretch my stamina to be working in a trio, but even so, this seemed like the first class in a while where I really felt on top of things all around.
Wednesday
Muay Thai class
This class had a more intermediate focus, working on concepts like level-changing and managing range/angling while attacking. I was partnered with a newer person, so my personal emphasis was on helping them understand the details of the drills. They were a receptive student, fortunately, which is always welcome. And then we finished up with some abdominal work while being pounded, which is always a good time.
Thursday
Muay Thai class
This class was basically one big (14-spot) drill station gauntlet rotation. I held up mostly through the first eleven stations, definitely flagged on the next two, and found a bit of a second wind on the last one (it was lead leg low kicks, which is one of my most comfortable techniques). I also almost kneed the guest kru in the face, because his station was holding pads for constant clinched knees, and I guess my pressure on his head and neck eventually wore down his resistance, because his posture broke completely right before that happened. Fortunately, no harm, no foul.
