Short week, due to some personal issues on Monday. At least I got things sorted out well enough to to still keep up the grind.
Tuesday
Muay Thai class
This was a fundamentals review class. We did a few drills of just a couple of strikes before then merging them together, and then the pattern repeated. To round things out, we did a couple of rounds of doing single or paired strikes called out by the kru. It was an atypical and interesting class that allowed nicely for polishing up basics.
Wednesday
Muay Thai class
The guest kru had us doing a lot of level change practice this class, alternating between mid and high strikes with both punches and knees. I always like doing padwork with a belly pad, and this class was no exception. I even had my partner running away from my body punches after the first few reps, which was satisfying personally and also meant that I got some practice with the footwork of chasing to maintain my desired spacing while still striking quickly.
Thursday
Muay Thai class (x2)
The first class started out with freestyle back-and-forth exchanges to practice defense in a semi-live setting, cycling between working on boxing only, kicking only, or everything. I had a personal goal to land at least three low kicks on my partner's rear leg on each round where kicking was allowed, and I was able to achieve that, so I was bound to feel good about how I did. Even beyond that, though, my defense felt pretty solid overall, even mixing in some more variety rather than sticking to my usual anvil style, and the kru didn't call me out when she was mentioning people who were looking down during the kicking-only rounds, which hints that I had good eye discipline as well. Despite it being a Thursday, I decided to stay for the second class to make up for having missed out on that earlier this week, which meant some extra padwork focusing on being clean with basic techniques. I generally held up well for it, aside from a few stumbles towards the end from fatigue mounting up. It was a tiring but good training day overall.
