Jank week due to statutory holiday disruption, but I did what I could.

Monday

Muay Thai class

This class was a basics review day, which is probably well enough to just fit something in before Tuesday's holiday. I'd had reduced sleep the last couple of nights, so I was in relatively sorry condition and started showing fatigue about halfway through the class. That said, though, I did recover enough between drills to still finish up well during the final high-volume round kicks and calisthenics (including the capstone three-minute plank), so at least I had that going for me. It was still a sloppy performance overall, and one that I don't aim to repeat soon, but honestly, it's also probably a decent measure of myself if this was a bad day, and I should remind myself of that more often instead of constantly (mentally) beating myself up over my shortcomings.

Wednesday

Muay Thai class

The guest kru was back this day, but he had us doing back-and-forth head-to-head defense drills instead of his usual padwork, so at least that was good. We worked in a motley mix of different defensive concepts for various incoming strikes that felt rather haphazard and lacking in connective tissue conceptually, such that the end result felt like training specific responses to specific input stimuli rather than getting comfortable with adaptable concepts for use in flow. Then again, maybe I just don't click well with his teaching style.

Thursday

Muay Thai class (x2)

This was a padwork class focusing on kicks, particularly working on spacing and getting good hip snap on round kicks for effective impact. We finished things up with alternating front kicks for some extra flavor, wherein I seemed to have more success than I'd expected in moving my partner, as a minor sign that I might not suck as much as I tend to assume. The second class was light back-and-forth freestyle practice. I'd forgotten if I had any goals in mind from before for this sort of training, so I decided to just wing it and try to take whatever my partners left open for me. On which note, I continue to be surprised at how often I land front kicks cleanly off of punches, but I guess people are so used to expecting a round kick or knee strike to follow punches that it catches them by surprise, even if I'm doing it multiple times in the same round. That said, it felt strange to not have any personal goals to track, so I should make a point of having at least one ready for the future.
