Workout Recap - Week of January 22, 2023
Double-weekly-recap posting, part 2/2, the end of an era. It was a lighter week than I'd wanted to finish on, since I had a terrible mental-health day on Tuesday and the gym was closed due to weather on Wednesday, but I made the best of it, and in all, I'm happy with what I accomplished in 110 total training sessions (include extra solo sessions and the Carnage seminar) over 184 days.
Monday
Muay Thai class
This class was all about knee strikes. For all that I tend to enjoy those, something was off with me today. I had trouble remembering to thrust forward to finish the impact as I got tired near the ends of rounds, and my footwork for switch knees just felt weird in general. It wasn't my best day, but I did my best to put in the work, so ultimately, I can't fairly be too hard on myself from there, I guess.
Thursday
Muay Thai class
There was a lot of wearing a belly pad for this final class focused on teeps and body punches. I feel like I kept my balance quite well, and I did well to adjusting my mechanics based on the spacing after the teep for when we were following them up with round kicks. The last few rounds involved a lot of pounding out multiple body hooks, which was a fun burn-out to finish on. Although I'll be going elsewhere to train for the next few months, I enjoyed my time at this gym immensely (even with the complaints I sprinkled in at times) and expect to come back by summer for more Muay Thai training here.
Friday
Type: Pass/Fail
Pull Ups - 1 set of 12 (pass)
Pistol Squats - 1 set of 10, each side (fail)
Handstand Push Ups - 1 set of 15 (pass)
Bonus: none
I've got some time between gym memberships for a bit of recovery as well as a trip to see some friends, so I'll have a return to some of my classic workouts in the meantime. My lower back had a bit of an ache to it this day, and it was enough that I didn't want to force the pistol squats after trying a few. Otherwise, nothing too remarkable here, other than to say that I'm glad my overall fitness level seems to have been maintained pretty well despite the radically-different training I've been doing for the past few months.
