Workout Recap - Week of March 24, 2019
I blew my load on navel-gazing for today with the earlier post on musing about the greater implications of dice probability distributions, so I'll keep the introduction most succinct for this workout recap. It was a pretty solid week overall, although my ass is burning from the last couple days of it (even prior to the pistol squats that I just did for today's workout). All in all, I'm happy with how it turned out. Sunday Type: Pass/Fail One-armed Push Ups, feet together -

Thoughts on Rolling Dice (Uniform vs. Normal Distribution)
My main mode of playing a TTRPG at the moment is running a 5th edition Dungeons and Dragons campaign online for a group of friends. Prior to this (and skipping past the hiatus I'd had from playing), it was mostly playing 2nd edition Advanced Dungeons and Dragons. The two systems have myriad ways in which they're similar, specifically with regard to approaching resolution mechanics outside of simple attack rolls and saving throws (which are abstract enough in what they're mo

As with most recipes, there's a story behind this. I've got a friend who enjoys the products of my cooking in general, but she's also got a bit of a hang-up about vegetables in desserts. It's not an entirely consistent issue (e.g. she has no problems when it comes to eating my yucca-based cinnamon rolls), but it did crop up when I'd made some of The Paleo Mom's zucchini muffins. So, one day, while I looking at what perishable goods I had at hand, I found myself with a surpl
Workout Recap - Week of March 17, 2019
I've been thinking lately about why it is that I keep making these workout recap posts. It's certainly not a matter of popularity, because I can see that my other types of posts get far more visits than these do. It's certainly not a matter of accountability, either, because I'd been keeping records and holding myself accountable to myself for a few years before starting this blog. Perhaps there's some merit to having more regular posts than I would without them, but I'm n

The Way of Kings
Rating: D+ Length: 1252 pages, standard paperback page size/font Here's another Brandon Sanderson book, and sadly, my opinion of his work continues to erode as I read more of his novels. It's not that I want to disparage the guy. I'd much rather finish a long book feeling like it was a great story than that it was a huge block of my life that I wasted. I don't like being negative, but if the criticism is warranted, I'm not going to hold back on it. The structure of this bo
Workout Recap - Week of March 10, 2019
After my brush of sickness last week, this week's main goal was to get back on track. There wasn't anything spectacular about what I ended up doing, but they were five mostly-legitimate workouts, which lays a decent groundwork to build up from. Monday Type: As Fast As Possible 5 sets of: 5 Pulls Ups 10 Push Ups 15 Prisoner Squats Time = 4:30 Bonus: none Seeing as I had done this workout as things had started to trend poorly for me, it felt like an appropriate measuring point
Workout Recap - Week of March 3, 2019
Normally, the first full week of a new month would mean it's 100 burpee challenge time. Unfortunately, I felt rather rough at the back end of the week and through the weekend, so I gave that a pass. On top of that, I was busy enough otherwise during the week to drop down to only four workouts in total. All in all, things were trending downward, but I'm sure I can push through and get matters righted soon enough. On a more positive note, my unofficial recipe QA tester is ba
Workout Recap - Week of February 24, 2019
Sometimes, it's easy to lose self-awareness amidst enjoying yourself. I like my many hobbies (as well anyone should, of course), but it's undeniably demanding to feel like there's always something more to do. After my workout today, I flat-out crashed into bed and took a much-needed nap. Once I woke up, I realized that I'd been pushing aside how tired I'd been from trying to do too much during the last week in my excitement. Passion is good, but it should be tempered, les
