Workout Recap - Week of October 3, 2021
I'm pretty happy with how this week's workouts went overall. Maybe they weren't the greatest performances or the most inventive routines, but I fit them all in with whatever else I was doing and never felt like I was just going through the motions.
Sunday
Type: Pass/Fail
Uneven Pull Ups - 2 sets of 5, each side (pass)
Stand-to-stand Bridges, one wall touch on the way up - 2 sets of 6 (pass)
Archer Push Ups - 2 sets of 14, each side (pass)
Bonus: 5 breath isometric one-arm dead hang (each side)
Adding in a bonus on top of what I did for these movements last week. I think grip endurance is the biggest hurdle in the way of progressing my pull ups, so I should give some thought to zeroing in on that.
Tuesday
Type: As Fast As Possible
5 sets of:
10 Chin Ups
10 Lunges (each side)
10 Side Lunges (each side)
20 High Knees
Time = 9:45
Bonus: 2 sets of 10 push ups
A good run through some basic movements in higher volumes than I've aimed for lately. I could see this coming back with some tweaks to make it a little harder.
Wednesday
Type: Pass/Fail
Handstand Push Ups - 2 sets of 15 (pass)
Isometric L-Hang - 2 sets of 24 breaths (pass)
Shrimp Squats, both hands behind me - 2 sets of 8, each side (pass)
Bonus: 3 two-way suicide jumps
I switched back to doing normal handstand push ups instead of close ones because, after some reflection, it felt like the latter was specializing the movement in a way that wouldn't be worth pursuing further if my end target is to do freestanding handstand push ups. I don't regret having done them, but I think working in obstacles to improve my balance will be more fruitful.
Friday
Type: As Fast As Possible
3 sets of:
21/15/9 Prisoner Squats
21/15/9 Push Ups
21/15/9 Sit Ups
Time = 5:45
Bonus: 30 breath isometric handstand
I ripped through this workout with surprising ease. That's not to say that I wasn't pushing myself, but I was happy to see how little time I spent on just catching my breath.
Saturday
Type: As Fast As Possible
3 sets of:
11/8/5 Pull Ups
11/8/5 Burpees
21/15/9 Bridges
Time = 6:45
Bonus: 10 breath isometric hanging front tuck
Not one of my classic weekend challenges in execution, but it certainly reflected their spirit, and the completion time felt decent. I'll take it.
