I know I'm late posting this. Alas.
Monday
Muay Thai double class
The first class this day was a padwork session by the guest kru. It stuck to basic strikes but mixed them around in a few ways to build comfort with different transitions. It was nothing groundbreaking, but my balance was a bit off this day, so it was a good coincidence that I was able to function mostly on muscle memory while focusing more on staying in control of my body. The second class was a light sparring session, always a welcome treat, and I had some good rounds with a roughly even mix of newbies and aspiring/active fighters. My personal goal was simply to land a lead hook to the body each round, which I managed to achieve. For my next sparring session, I think I'll want to challenge myself to use some head-level round kicks, since I often stay at either low or body-level.
Tuesday
Muay Thai double class
The first class was front and round kick practice, mixing and matching between various permutations. It was a good opportunity to review basics, especially as it built off of the previous day. We finished up with a round of repeated round kicks with each leg, which I felt like I held up decently through. The second class was boxing, again reviewing basic stuff. If nothing else, it was a good stamina test to do that after the first one. I was exhausted by the end, but my form seemed to stay solid enough to still keep decent crack on my power strikes, so I'll take it.
Wednesday
Muay Thai double class
The first class was head-to-head back-and-forth defense drills with the guest kru. We mostly worked on different defenses and responses for rear round kicks, which is certainly a very important skill to develop for Muay Thai. There was some weird stuff mixed in, as usual, but it was honestly one of the guest kru's more sensible classes from my perspective, and it transitioned nicely into a second class of light sparring. I maintained my head-level kick goal, trying for attempting at least one per leg per round. I had one or two rounds where I spaced on doing it with my rear leg, but I did achieve it with my lead leg, so I'm counting that as a partial success that I should aim to complete next time. I do need to practice more to find better situations for trying those, but it was noticeable how much just doing a couple cooled off my partners' aggressiveness in defending my other kicks, so it was a worthwhile experiment.
Thursday
Muay Thai class
This was a stamina day built around doing punches into multiple kicks. I worked with an experience person who I don't partner with often because the kru usually has them helping with preparing the competitive fighters, so that was an unexpected treat. They had a lot of complimentary comments for me between rounds, but it honestly seems like that's just how they are in general. That said, at least I was a useful partner for conditioning considering they were obviously worn down over the course of each round (thus also suggesting that I did well at setting the intensity to push at the bounds of their capabilities).
