Workout Recap - Week of August 6, 2017

It was good to step back up to 5 workouts this week. Less good was that my thighs were sore as fuck for most of the week. I don't know what it is about side lunges that always kills me. They're not hard, but I suppose the movement is just different enough from what I usually do that they end up affecting me much worse than objectively more difficult leg movements like pistol squats.

Sunday

Type: Pass/Fail

Handstand Push Ups - 2 sets of 15 (pass)

Uneven Pull Ups - 2 sets of 9, each side (pass)

Shrimp Squats - 2 sets of 10, each side (pass)

Bonus: 4 sets of 3 thigh clap push ups, 10 bridges

Hitting the Convict Conditioning progression targets for uneven pull ups and handstand push ups is great, but next steps for both of those are pretty big jumps. Still, nothing to it but to keep working towards them.

Tuesday

Type: As Many Reps As Possible

3 sets of 30 second intervals with 10 seconds of rest of:

Jump Squats (total = 56)

Pike Push Ups (total = 54)

High Knees (total = 117 each side)

Side Lunges (total = 36 each side)

Mountain Climbers (total = 106 each side)

Hanging Knee Raises (total = 56)

Bonus: 11 pull ups

Leg killer, even without considering my issues with side lunges.

Wednesday

Type: Pass/Fail

1-Armed Push Ups, Feet Together - 2 sets of 6, each side (pass)

Stand-to-Stand Bridges (with one touch of a wall on the way up) - 2 sets of 8 (pass)

Hanging V Raises - 2 sets of 8 (pass)

Bonus: 4 sets of 3 suicide jumps

Steady progress.

Friday

Type: As Fast As Possible

4 sets of:

10 Pull Ups

15 Bridges

20 Mountain Climbers (each side)

Time = 7:30

Bonus: 2 sets of 5 handstand push ups

A solid performance on another regular staple.

Saturday

Type: As Fast As Possible

100 Burpees

Time = 11:00

Bonus: 2 sets of 10 chin ups

The monthly measuring stick. A bit short of my personal record, but I'll take it. I felt pretty good doing it, starting out on pace for about a 7 minute finish at my first breath break (21 reps) and getting over 50 reps before needing a third breath break (at which point I think I had been on pace for a slightly sub-10 minute finish, so I didn't flag as much in the second half as I used to, either). Honestly, I'm a bit suspicious of my personal record time, but it's in my records, so it's on me to find a way to beat it.
