One review down, one more to go. The disappointment persists, but so do I.
Monday
Muay Thai class
I would've wanted to stay for a double-class this day, but there was only one class due to Easter. It was still a stamina-killer though, so at least there was that. I had a good time with the grind (as usual), and I set a personal record during a round of body-level crosses into a partner wearing a belly pad with making my partner need to ask for a recovery break three times during that round (in my defense, I did advise them to put their elbows inside the pad to help with absorbing the hits after I noticed their initial discomfort, so it was their own fault for not heeding the suggestion). They tried getting me back by picking the heaviest medicine ball they could (over a third of my bodyweight) for our finishing slam, but I made it work with a couple of pauses along the way to catch my breath. I was a little disappointed about not getting to double up, but I'm sure I'll have a chance at doing that later this week.
Tuesday
Muay Thai class
This was a boxing-focused class, doing simple, high-volume work. I partnered with a rare person also willing to push the pace like I do, so I got in a good workout that actually wore me down by the end of the class. On which note, I'm considering doing some classes with MMA-style gloves to check that my hands are doing sensible things while I'm fatigued, but it's not a huge priority for me at the moment.
Wednesday
Muay Thai class (x2)
I finally got to do a doubled class again. The first one worked on jab-cross openings into a few finishes, with some defense mixed in as well. It felt like a nice middle ground between the usual basics and the sort of drills that I'd imagine happen in the advanced classes. My suspicion was confirmed pretty much immediately, since the second class was working on boxing with slips and movement mixed into typical punching sequences. There were a couple rounds of using a slip line for which I'm pretty sure my footwork was complete ass (to be expected, it was my first time doing any slip line drills, if I'm not mistaken), but aside from that, I think I was getting good leg engagement and cracking the pads nicely despite how tired I was. It was nice to do some training that really pushed me outside of my comfort zone again.
Thursday
Muay Thai class
This was a knee strike day, and since I was still dealing with some lingering fatigue from the previous day, I was content to dial back my power and focus on having clean technique while also just surviving the class. There were a couple of others who I overheard gassing me up to a new person (one talking about how I seem to be utterly relentless and have very hard knee strikes, and the other saying that I have the best defensive hand discipline of anyone and never seem to leave a clean opening to my head), but they're both rampant talkers, so I don't believe anything they said.
