One good thing about being sort of the unofficial newbie-minder is that I get to train with a variety of partners. I think that helps keep me from getting complacent about being used to partners knowing what they're doing and being close to my size, since both of those are likely to be detrimental factors if I ever have to use my skills for real.
Monday
Muay Thai class
This was a speed-focused class, sticking to basic drills but trying to do the reps quickly. I was tired by the end, but I was still holding back some speed to avoid overwhelming my partner, which isn't saying too much since they're quite new, but it's nice that I was capable of that at all. There was no real second class since we just did a light sparring shark tank for one of the fighters instead. I got in on the last round of it, though I didn't do much of note on account of being overmatched realistically by basically all metrics, on top of mindfucking myself for stupid reasons. At least I did push them to stay active for the whole round and was able to competently protect myself, which was probably the most I could contribute anyway (due to the aforementioned overmatchedness).
Tuesday
Muay Thai class
This was more basics review, with perhaps a little more spice than usual, but still keeping things on the tame side for the newbies to get up to speed. This is not a complaint; getting automatic with the basics is important to making everything else work well. I had a bad partner today, though, so alas, I didn't get much more out of it all than I could've gotten from hitting a bag.
Wednesday
Muay Thai class
This was basics review once again, this time with an emphasis on kicks. We did lots of round kicks and front kicks with both legs, but working in a trio meant I wasn't pushed too hard for my stamina. Naturally, finishing up a leg work class involved doing a lot of squats, too. Fine by me; I like leg days.
Thursday
Muay Thai class
Attendance was low, probably due in part to a heatwave coming in, so that was a fine excuse to open with a drill station gauntlet rotation. It was only six stations, but it wore the shit out of me (which I'm taking as a good sign that I wasn't slacking to get through it easier). We rounded things out with some drills for building offense off of an early uppercut, but being more sensible about it than to follow with a second, before finishing off with some high volume repeated round kicks. I definitely wore down over the course of it all, but I survived.
