I suffered a minor calf strain on the weekend, which was funny because I don't think it had anything to do with my training; it was just another random injury. Fortunately, it seemed to heal most of the way by Monday, so while I will take things a little easy for a day or two more to protect it, it shouldn't have a significant impact on my training as long as I don't aggravate it further.
Monday
Muay Thai class
This was a stamina grind day, starting off with high volume round kicks interspersed with push ups. I was able to get through that much, more or less, but between the heatwave here of late and a lack of sleep in the last few days, I burned out soon after on further drills. No second class for me this day since I was wiped already by the first.
Tuesday
Muay Thai class
This was a basics review day, with some elbow and knee strikes mixed in. I like those, so I had a good time with this. We wrapped things up with a bunch of calisthenics, for which I kept up fairly well, despite almost falling from a slip when it was my turn to count out 50 reps of the current movement. The wheel turns and swirls unending.
Wednesday
Muay Thai class
This was a knee strike day, going into them both off of punches and off of parries. I don't understand why so many people seem to dislike knees or find them boring. They're a great weapon that it's easy to be threatening with, and their relative simplicity means that having just slightly more mastery of them than an opponent can result in a big performance disparity.
Thursday
Muay Thai class
One of the competitive fighters took over teaching for this class, while the kru focused fully on helping some newer people, so things were familiar but a bit different from usual. The emphasis for this day was on staying balanced and recovering quickly to be ready to defend after striking. In between drills, the fighter said that they liked doing padwork with me, and when I asked if I was doing something atypical, they explained that I hold the pads in a way that simulates an actual person's size well. It wasn't a compliment I was expecting, but it is something that I actively try to do to be a better partner, so it was cool to have someone say they appreciate it.
