This was a solid week, as I'm looking to ramp up my practice now that we're getting into fight camp mode for an event coming up in September.

Monday

Muay Thai class

The guest kru was back this day with a truly bizarre class. It was focused on progressively building a sequence opening off of a double lead-side uppercut, which is certainly something that can happen in theory, but it feels like a very narrow niche that I question spending a whole hour on it when there are several students who are still developing a lot more basic (and more broadly useful) stuff. It might've been more understandable if he gave some context for when and why it'd be helpful to have trained from that opening, but he doesn't like to explain anything (other than his fixation on claiming he knows how to throw hook punches better than boxers do). It feels indicative of only training people from one's own perspective rather than training to maximize their individual potential, which might be a big piece of why I don't click well with his teaching style.

Tuesday

Muay Thai class (x2)

The first class this day was working offensive extensions off of a jab > lead hook opener, which is kind of similar to my previous class on the surface, but it's so much more practical as an initiation tool and we worked various extensions off of it instead of adding more and more to a single one, both of which made this class feel a lot better to me. The second class was a short one doing some basic counters off of various blocks, followed by wrapping up with some high-volume round kicks and push ups. Good stuff all around.

Wednesday

Muay Thai class

The main kru taught the class this day, which was a nice surprise. We started out doing stamina-focused work with basic strikes, and then after a few drills at that, we switched to light back-and-forth freestyle. My personal goal was to land at least one strike per round on a defensive opening set up by a preceding feint, which I achieved. It wasn't anything too special as a goal, but I wanted to put some pressure on myself to download my opponent's patterns quickly and check my reads.

Thursday

Muay Thai class

This was a boxing class, featuring a nice mix of intermediate drills involving defense and countering together with some stamina burn. I was feeling crispy, though perhaps a little too upright to start, but that seemed to smooth out once I put my mind to it. A good class to finish out the week.
