I seem to have reached a sort of stalemate with the recurring guest kru where he doesn't give me any feedback on my performance except for padwork. Personally, I take it as a sign of a bad teacher if they're unwilling to adjust their approach for different students, but whatever, I will take whatever I can that's useful from him and focus on my own development without relying on him otherwise.
Monday
Muay Thai class
The kru was seemingly giving the competitive fighters a break after the event last weekend, so it was just a single class run by the guest kru for this day. We started out doing drills on long sequences of punches before transitioning into lots of elbow and knee strikes. It was a fun class, though I would say that it was curiously easy (in terms of athletic demand) compared to his previous ones. I'm not sure if that was intention or just coincidence, but I hope the guest kru does keep up his previous trend of pushing people's fitness levels since I think that's one of the most universally useful things in any sort of (practical) martial arts training.
Tuesday
Muay Thai class
This was a stamina-grind day, in a sad end to the streak of head-to-head Tuesdays. Alas, but at any rate, we did several drills with long sequences and/or double-kick stuff. There was a funny moment when the kru accused me of fucking up one of the long sequences as she was walking by, but then she started talking through it and realized that she was the one who'd gotten mixed up. Anyway, we finished with some high-volume round kicks and calisthenics, all of which I felt like I handled decently. All in all, I felt pretty good about how I did despite some mistakes sprinkled in that I kept needing to correct.
Wednesday
Muay Thai class (x2)
The guest kru had us start out with a drill station gauntlet rotation, which I felt like I handled well (though it probably helped that there were only six stations). After that, we did drills on blocking and countering round kicks, which were simple but good. As a welcome final surprise, we finished up with a little bit of freestyle back-and-forth boxing. Honestly, this was probably the class he's run that clicked the best with me so far. The start of the second class got a bit derailed because of some drama, but once it got going, we did a bunch of padwork on practical sequences with multiple angle/level changes. Very good stuff, and it was nice to notice that I was still getting steam on my head-level hook punches despite how tired I was. This was a very satisfying couple of training sessions that I was glad to double-up on.
Thursday
Muay Thai class
This class was the return of more stamina-grinding, doing long sequences with multiple leg attacks. We mixed in some elbow strikes for a fun bit of flair, too. I was partnered with a pair of significantly larger people, so it was a nice challenge to resist getting knocked around when it was my turn to hold the pads for them. Cool stuff overall, even if I was thoroughly exhausted by the end of it.
